Slab Crafting
In gameA flat stone is the first table. Everything the hands learn, they learn upon it.
Lay the makings on a work surface and press B to make arrows, bows, quivers and more.
Slab crafting is making things out in the world, with your hands and your tools. Set the makings down on a block, look at it, and press B.
How it works
- Set the makings down on top of a block.
- Hold any tool the work needs, in either hand.
- Look at the block and press B.
- If more than one thing can be made, choose. If only one can, the work begins.
- Hold steady while you work. Each strike rings off the stone.
- The finished piece drops onto the block.
- Nothing is used until the last strike.
- Only what the work needs is used. Anything else on the block stays where it lies.
- B again, or Esc, stops the work. So does looking away, stepping off, or putting the tool down. You lose nothing but the wear already on your tool.
Work surfaces
Most work needs a work surface, a hard block made for the purpose. Soft ground will not do, and you will be told the work needs a harder surface. Some things, like arrows, can be put together on any ground.
Tools
Some work needs a blade, some a hammer. The tool is not used up, but every strike wears it. See Tools and Wear.
- Blade: a flint knife.
- Hammer: a flint hammer, or a flint knife.
What you can make
- Arrow Shaft. One stick. A blade, on a work surface.
- Bone Arrowheads. One large bone gives two. A blade, on a work surface.
- Bone Powder. One small bone, ground down. A hammer, on a work surface.
- Oak Bow. Two sticks and a grass rope. A blade, on a work surface.
- Hide Quiver. Two small furs and a grass rope. A blade, on a work surface.
- Flint Arrows. Three flint arrowheads, three shafts and a grass rope make three arrows. By hand, on any ground.
- Bone Arrows. The same, with bone arrowheads.
In the pack
A few simple things are still made in the pack. Lay the makings in the grid, each in its place, and click the result. It drops at your feet.
- Bone Spike. Three small bones across the top row. You will want one for Rope.
