Sculpting Clay

Clay remembers every hand that pressed it. Press gently, and with purpose.

Shape red clay layer by layer into bowls and vessels.

Clay is built up, piece by piece, from the bottom. What stone gives by taking away, clay gives by adding.

Getting clay

Break a bed of red clay and it gives two or three lumps of Red Clay.

Starting

1. Hold red clay in your main hand.
2. Press Alt + right mouse. A shaping board is set on the ground before you.
3. Choose what to make.

Until you choose, you can close the choice at no cost. Once begun, a sculpt cannot be set down. Finish it.

Shaping

The shape rises one layer at a time, from the bottom up. Only the lowest unfinished layer can be worked. Finished layers below it are set.

• Left click an empty place to add a piece. Each piece costs one red clay from your hand.
• Left click a piece to strike it away. It is gone.
• Outlined places want clay. A piece in the wrong place shows red. Strike it away.

When every layer is right, the finished piece is set on the ground.

• Clay Bowl. A solid base five pieces across, with a ring wall on top. Forty-one pieces of clay.
